Organizing for myself…and other “collectors”

I wrote this 12 years ago.

“I woke up really early this morning and since my organizing client cancelled at last minute because of a death in the family, I was still in the mood to organize. Loaded up my van full with stuff I got rid of. Hurray! I feel so light. I really am starting to learn more about organizing my own stuff as I organize others. It is sometimes hard to be objective:)I “

Sometimes I wish I had someone who has my skills–to help me get organized! I am a collector–not a hoarder. I love to upcycle, and have so many opportunities to re-use things since I have two homesteads and homes I am overseeing!

Fortunately, I can organize my own stuff, and I am so glad I continue to fine tune my own processes so my systems are easier maintain. Then I can teach others who have a similar lifestyle, to do the same.

Some organizers encourage people to just let go of everything. Especially in these days of wastefulness, I encourage people to reflect on whether or not there might be a use in the future. If so, let’s organize it so you can find it, and so it doesn’t take up “prime real estate.”

Prime real estate is your immediate environment where want to have those things at your fingertips which you use often.

I’m in the process of writing some stories about my organizing jobs–I’ll be posting it soon.
