Making a raised bed garden

I really liked this article and felt inspired as I am getting ready to make a unique raised bed garden.

In addition to the suggestions in the article above, I am going to do the following:

Use kitty litter buckets that we got from the recycling center to be the sides of the raised bed, and plant in the kitty litter buckets. (holes will be drilled of course).

Plan the size so it can eventually be a vertical garden bed, as well as a mini greenhouse. I will use a cattle panel to make the vertical part. I’m still not quite sure how I will do this, but I will consult with my genius friend Robert who is a master at solving problems.

Dig down below the soil line and put logs and other material that will retain moisture–similar to hugelkulture gardening

Use a weed eater to grind up both carbon and green materials

Use probiotics that will help the layered materials break down faster

Add some earthworms which I found in abundance in another part of the garden.

Get some pine needles to mulch after I plant

Use super fine potting soil (that I make) to plant the seeds in the top layer.

Be super vigilant about watering the seeds since it is still hot.

Add some compost tea made out of urine, comfrey, and kelp fertilizer.

Add some rock minerals.

Add some ashes

…..

I hope you will read the article I recommended so you can see the big picture, and understand better why I am adding my additional ideas. I love getting inspired by people’s ideas, and then adding my own creativity and inspiration.

What suggestions do you have in order to make a great raised bed garden?
